The shade on this lamp is shaped like a wide brimmed hat set at a slight tilt, and the tilt is the whole design. A straight shade throws a symmetrical circle. An angled one throws an ellipse that reaches further in one direction, so the lamp can sit at the back of a desk and still put light where the work is.

Touch anywhere on the brim to switch it on, and hold to move through the brightness range. There is no switch, no dial and no button, which keeps the silhouette clean and means there is nothing to fumble for in the dark. The base is small relative to the shade, so it takes very little desk space for the amount of light it delivers.

It is cordless and recharges over USB, so it moves easily between a desk, a bedside and a dinner table. Five finishes are available: deep grey and black for a restrained desk, gold for warmth, and orange green and blue green where the lamp is meant to be looked at. The shade is metal and stays cool at normal brightness. Charge it indoors, keep the port dry, and give it a full charge before storing it unused for any length of time.
