Description
Opal white glass is the quiet workhorse of pendant lighting. It diffuses a bulb completely, so there is no bright point to catch your eye and no hard shadow beneath, only an even glow that fills the space under it. This pendant uses that property in a clean mid century silhouette with a slim metal stem and no ornament to date it.
The practical advantage of a fully diffusing shade is that you can use a brighter bulb than you otherwise would. A clear glass pendant at high output becomes uncomfortable to sit beneath. This one spreads the same output across the whole surface of the shade, which is why opal pendants work over kitchen islands and dining tables where people are looking upward as often as down.
Three shade profiles are available, from a rounded globe to a more elongated form, so the fitting can be matched to ceiling height and to the proportions of what sits beneath it. Hang a single pendant over a round table, or run two or three of the same profile in a line above an island or a long dining table. Cable length is adjustable at installation, and the fitting should be installed by a qualified electrician onto a ceiling point rated for the load.
