Wabi Sabi Pendant Light

Wabi sabi is the idea that an object gains from its irregularities rather than losing to them. This pendant is built on that principle. The resin shade is finished with a deliberately uneven surface, so the light passing through it is not perfectly uniform and the shade itself carries small variations that catch the eye at close range.

The shape is a simple downward facing dome with no hardware visible below the ceiling rose. That plainness is deliberate. A textured surface needs a simple form to sit on, otherwise the two compete and the result reads as busy rather than considered. Hung low over a table the shade is the only thing in view, which is exactly the intention.

Two finishes are offered, both under a warm light source. White is the quieter of the two and reads almost like plaster, sitting comfortably in a pale Nordic scheme. Orange is warmer and more present, and it does more work in a room that needs a focal point. Cable length is adjustable at installation, and the fitting should be installed by a qualified electrician onto a ceiling point rated for the load. A dimmer is worth fitting here, since the textured shade shows its surface best at lower output levels.
