Description
Ribbed glass is what happens when a designer wants texture without pattern. The vertical fluting on this shade breaks the light into narrow bands as it passes through, so the fitting throws a subtly striped glow rather than a flat circle, and the shade itself catches highlights along every ridge even when the lamp is off.
The brass collar and stem are the other half of the equation. Warm metal against ribbed glass is a combination that belongs to a particular era of European lighting, and it still reads as considered rather than nostalgic. Three glass colours are available. Amber is the warmest and turns the light noticeably golden. Green is the most characterful and works well against wood and dark paint. White is the most neutral and diffuses the most, making it the best choice where the pendant needs to provide real working light rather than atmosphere. Hang singly over a small table or in a run of three above an island. Cable length is adjustable and installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician. Ribbed glass hides fingerprints well but collects dust in the flutes, so dust it with a soft brush occasionally.
