Crescent Moon LED Desk Lamp

The arm on this lamp is a single crescent of metal, thin enough to read as a drawn line and rigid enough to hold its position without a joint anywhere along its length. The LED strip runs the inside of the curve, which means the light source is hidden from every normal viewing angle and only the lit surface below is visible.

That concealed strip is the practical difference between this and a conventional desk lamp. A bulb under a shade produces a bright point that catches the corner of your eye whenever you look up. A recessed strip along a curve produces a broad soft band on the desk with nothing bright in your sightline, which is easier to work under for long stretches.

The head pivots so the band can be aimed across a keyboard, a page or a sketchpad, and the whole lamp is powered over USB rather than a mains adaptor, so it runs from a laptop, a monitor port or a plug adaptor as convenient. Three colours are available: white and black for a neutral desk, and pink where the lamp is meant to be part of the scheme. The metal body stays cool in use and the weighted base resists being pulled over by the cable.
