U Shaped Acrylic Photo Frame

This frame is two parts, and that is the whole idea. A clear acrylic U slides into a solid wood base, and the photograph sits pressed inside the curve with nothing surrounding it. There is no border, no mount and no visible fixing. From the front the picture appears to float above the timber, held there by an object that seems too simple to be doing the work.

The absence of a frame edge changes what the piece does to a photograph. A traditional frame draws a boundary and turns the image into a picture on a wall. This one removes the boundary, which keeps the photograph reading as an object on a shelf, closer to how a print sits in a studio than how a portrait sits in a hallway.

Horizontal and vertical orientations are both available, in two wood tones, so a shelf can be built out with a mix that still holds together. It suits desks, bedside tables, open shelving and studio walls, and it works particularly well with small format prints and instant film, which get lost inside conventional frames. The acrylic will scratch if it is wiped with anything abrasive, so use a soft dry cloth only, and keep the frame out of direct sunlight to protect the print inside it.
