Corduroy Cushion Covers

Corduroy is having a long moment in interiors for a simple reason: it brings texture and warmth to a sofa without introducing a pattern that has to be coordinated with everything else. The ribbed wale catches light along its length, so a plain colour reads as two tones depending on the angle, which is what stops a solid cushion looking flat.

These are covers rather than complete cushions, which is the sensible way to buy. Inserts last for years while covers get worn, marked and eventually tired of, so replacing the outer layer is cheaper, easier to store and far easier to change with the seasons. A concealed zip runs along one edge so the closure is invisible once the cover is on.

Nine colours are available, running from quiet neutrals in beige, white and dark grey through to blue, green, light green, pink, yellow and wine red. Buying two or three tones from the same range works better on a sofa than matching everything, since the shared texture holds them together while the colours give the arrangement some depth. Machine washable on a cool cycle. Wash inside out to protect the pile and avoid tumble drying on high heat.
